Greetings from snowy and cold Berlin Ohio. We hope this finds you well. With gratitude we are happy to announce that this year has been off to a banner start for Berlin Natural Bakery. As great as that sounds, it does not come without its own set of challenges.

Every word that describes our products, “Ancient grain”, “Heirloom grain”, “Non-GMO “Verified’, “small batch” from “scratch baking”, “freshly stone ground”, “ingredients you can recognize and pronounce” and the list goes on - is in high demand. Today these are all hot words in the marketplace. The demand for products that meet not just one of the criteria listed above but all of the criteria – are even hotter.

We’ve been true to the mission for over 28 years. We have refused to take short cuts and compromise the integrity of our ingredients. We know why you are purchasing our products and that nearly every person is dealing with some type of food related issue - and these days – there are far too many.

The price for commodity ingredients is determined by market pricing. The market price is driven by the demand for the ingredient. The demand for pure ancient heirloom spelt grain and pure Non-GMO ingredients is beyond what we have ever experienced. As excited as we are that consumers are finally realizing the benefits of avoiding GMOs – it is not without the burden we feel of having to deal with increased costs.

As I’m sure by now you realize that this leads to us having no option but to increase our prices. The only alternative would be to find and source lesser quality ingredients. This is not something that we can do or are willing to do. We’ve always stood by our statement “we do what’s right – even if it isn’t easy.” We will continue to do so – for as long as you continue to buy Berlin Natural Bakery.
